Underwater search team recovers SCUBA Divers Body

SCUBA Divers Body Was Pulled from the Water Early Tuesday Morning.

The Search had started on Sunday for a 30 year old Diver that did not surface from a popular Dive Spot. The search was called off on Monday but again resumed this Morning when they found the Diver.

Cumia police can confirm that the North West Police Underwater Search Team recovered a body of a man from Wastwater lake this morning, Tuesday 29 January 2013.

The body was discovered following a large scale search in and around Wastwater after a diver failed to surface on Sunday afternoon (27th). A search of the shore was mounted on Sunday and a police underwater search team from Lancashire attended and searched the area from 11pm on Sunday 27 January until 6.30am on Monday 28 January 2013.

The underwater search team re-commenced their search later on Monday morning however the search was postponed later that afternoon due to the weather conditions.

The Underwater Search Unit began searching again this morning (Tuesday 29th) and, sadly, recoveredthe body of a man.

 

PRESS RELEASE

Police were called yesterday afternoon at 3.08pm (Sunday 27 January) to reports that a diver was missing after a group had been diving in Wastwater Lake.

Police, Coastguard, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance, RAF helicopter and Mountain Rescue were deployed to assist with the search for the diver – a man aged in his 30s from the West Yorkshire area.

The Police Underwater Search team were also deployed last night to assist and continued to search until 6.30am this morning. The search will continue again later this morning.

The other agencies involved in the shore search were stood down at 6.30pm last night due to it being too dark and dangerous to continue in the conditions.

The missing diver’s family have been contacted and are being kept up to date by police officers. They will continue to be supported as the search continues.
