Frisbee Dolphin saved after Ring Removed
The 40 people used 7 boats to located the young dolphin swimming with its mother in a large pod of dolphins on the east side of Blount Island. The team waited for the right opportunity to separate the pair from the pod by corralling them into shallower water. Rescuers set a net around the two and removed the aerobie.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A dolphin calf is now untangled from a aerobie, similar to a frisbee, that was stuck around its head thanks to a team of 40 rescuers Wednesday.
The 40 people used 7 boats to located the young dolphin swimming with its mother in a large pod of dolphins on the east side of Blount Island. The team waited for the right opportunity to separate the pair from the pod by corralling them into shallower water.
Rescuers set a net around the two and removed the aerobie. If the aerobie wasn’t removed, it could have potentially threatened the life of the calf, according to Allison Garrett, NOAA Fisheries communications specialist.
The calf and mother were both evaluated by a veterinarian who determined that the calf was healthy enough to be released back into the wild. Once released, the pair rejoined the pod of dolphins.
